Import Restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

• exotic species of fish
• cinematographic films
• food products
• medicines
• pharmaceuticals
• newsprint and writing paper
• plants and parts of
• spirits and wines
• tobacco extracts and related substances
• toilet waters
• vegetables and fruit.

Importers are to notify the Food and Drugs Department (FDD) on certain food products to ensure there is compliance with current requirements, in order for products to be examined, approved and released accordingly.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

• alcoholic beverages
• animal products
• bees
• coins of any country
• currency, counterfeit
• drugs, non-prescription
• fictitious stamps and any die, or instruments capable of making stamps
• foodstuffs
• linen
• log and timber products from Liberia
• lottery tickets and advertising
• matches containing white (yellow) phosphorous
• obscene articles
• plants
• prepared opium and pipes
• seeds / soil
• shaving brushes made in Japan
• silkworms
• subversive publications
• trademarks, imitated
• window glass.

In addition, commercial goods mailed to Guyana require an invoice. An import permit is required for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. The sender should provide a Certificate of Origin for British-made goods.

The following documents may be required:

1. Commercial Invoice

2. Completed Declaration

3. Taxpayer Identification Number

4. Applicable permits or licences

5. Documents to support a transaction (ex Valuation)
