Import Restrictions
Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:
fishing nets
flowers and seeds
pharmaceuticals
radio transmitters and receivers
wireless equipment.
Prohibited Items
In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:
advertising products
alcohol
animal products which are used for traditional medicine such as hide and skins, ivory, rhino horns, bones of sharks particularly from the Far East.
antiques
beverages
chemical products
childrens toys
cigar or cigarette sweets for children
foodstuffs
games of chance
hashish
incense (burning type)
knives
live animals
materials considered obscene and contrary to religion and faith, customs and tradition
military devices
opium in any form
ornamental or coconut palms
packets of cigarettes and tobacco not bearing warmings
pearls, cultured, imitated, or artificial
political propaganda
publications or recordings considered to be obscene, contrary to religion, faith, customs and tradition
satellite dishes
small four-wheeled vehicles for children
soil
tobacco advertisements
vegetable and animal fats
weapons and parts of weapons.
Documentation Required
Information regarding Customs can be found in "Customs Requirements" of the Canada Postal Guide.
It is required to submit the Customs declaration and present it together with the following documents for the importation of goods
1.) Import Customs Declaration Form (CDF)
2.) Shipping Agent Delivery Order from Shipping Agent Line to Importer/Consignee (with valid CR)
3.) Three (3) copies of Invoices (Original) from the Exporter addressed to the Importer
4.) Two (2) copies of the Packing List with detailed weights, packaging and goods classification for each individual item within the shipment.
5.) A Certificate of Origin (Original) from relevant Chambers of Commerce of country of origin of goods
6.) Import Permit/Approval from relevant authority for importation of restricted goods
7.) A statistical declaration if the final destination of goods is within the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries
In addition, commercial goods mailed to Bahrain must include an invoice and a Certificate of Origin.
Customs Procedure:
Parcels Containing Dutiable Items- Parcels or packages which contain items which are dutiable will be detailed by Customs at the Post Office. The addressee will be notified by the post office regarding the status of their parcel by a Notification Letter. The parcels will be released after customs inspection at the post office is completed in the presence of the addresse or their representative. Any duty liable must be paid before release of the parcel.
Parcels Containing Non-Dutiable Items- Parcels which contain non-dutiable items and non-restricted items up to a total value of BD 250, will be released directly to the Post Office by Customs for delivery to the addresse. The shipper must ensure to attach the invoice to the parcel in order to facilitate customs clearance.
Parcels Containing Restricted or Controlled Items- Import of restricted items having a total value of up to BD 250 will require approval from the relevant authority. Parcels containing controlled goods will be sent to the relevant authority for approval of importation. Parcels requiring prior approval from the relevant authority will be detained by Customs at the Post Office. The addresse will be notified and asked to obtain an import permit/approval from the relevant authority. On presentation of the permit and payment of duty, the parcel will be released. The invoice must be attached to the parcel in order to facilitate customs clearance.
