Import Restrictions
Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:
animal products
eggs
ethylene
bees, parasites and silkworms
bengal matches
chemical products
carpets,
coffee and tea
cutlery
energy producing devices
electronic calculators
electric cables and insulated wire
fish of all kinds
fruits and nuts
fur
fine silk
honey
leather
nickel batteries

An import permit is required for all goods except personal gifts up to 20 Egyptian pounds value. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit.
Moslem religious books written in other than an Arabic language require a permit from the Customs Department. Copies of the Koran require a permit from the Department of Public Security.
Items of workmanship in precious metals must be marked as to metal content.
Prohibited Items
In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

Printers, fax machines, scanners and copiers require approval from the Ministry of Security.
Documentation Required
Information regarding Customs can be found in "Customs Requirements" of the Canada Postal Guide.
All commercial goods or merchandise mailed to Egypt must contain an invoice, a detailed list of contents, and a Certificate of Origin. Egyptian postal codes always precede the name of the city or town.
There are significant document restrictions:
1. The original sales invoice must be presented with two copies
2. The original certificate of origin must be presented with two copies
These two documents must be certified and authenticate by the Egyptian Consulate in the country of origin.
The following also applies:
1. If items are being shipped for personal use, a copy of the consignees identification and passport, as well as the original authorization letter are required.
2. If items are being shipped for special purposes, an original letter addressed to the Egyptian Customs stating the shipment is for special use, and the original commercial or industrial licenses are required. As well, a special use form, with the relevant company stamp, and value form, legalized by a bank is required.
3. If items shipped contain medical supplies for commercial use, the following is required: the original Medicine Political Authority approval, the Commercial Invoice approved by the Medicine Political Authority, a value form legalized by a bank, receipts of Customs Administration charges, a Commercial Invoice stamped by the bank, as well as the original and copy of the commercial registration licences.
4. For other shipments containing Commercial items the following is required: Form 11, receipts of the Customs Adminstration charges, a value form legalized by a bank, Commercial invoices legalized by a bank, a legalized Certificate of Origin, as well as original copies of applicable Commercial Licenses, and an original authorization stamped by a bank as required.
Customs Procedures:
Egypt law requires that all commercial agents and importers have Egyptian nationality. There is no simplified customs declaration system.
