Import Restrictions

Import restrictions apply to many types of goods. Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting.

• plant products, plants and seeds
• pharmaceutical products
• soil samples
• tobacco
• textile articles.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

• cork
• cosmetics and soap Fats, oils, derivatives of oils

• foodstuffs, including meat, fruits and vegetables
• hosiery and textiles

• plants and parts of plants
• precious and coloured metals
• precious stones
• preserves and perishables
• products containing dry ice
• publications of a communist or atheist character

Documentation Required

Information regarding Customs can be found in "Customs Requirements" of the Canada Postal Guide.

A commercial invoice, numbered, certified and signed by the sender must accompany all mail destined for Columbia.

Besides the Customs Declaration (SAD) traditionally required for all goods, consignments sent to Colombia must be accompanied by the following documents:

1. The commercial invoice in quadruplicate: the document must be in Spanish and indicate the value of the goods in USD, and the certificate of registration of import

2. The Certificate of Origin

3. The Certificate of Non Contamination; required for agrifood products, milk, and is issued by the Department Directorate of veterinary services

4. The phytosanitary certificate; required for fruits, vegetables, seeds and other plants. It is used by the Regional Service for the protection of the plants.

5. The health certificate issued by the Directorate of veterinary services

6. The certificate of free sale for cosmetics.

Other products may be subject to the presentation of certificates of free sale to be registered in Colombia.
