Import Restrictions

An import licence is required for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

  • coffee and coffee samples
  • cologne and perfume
  • communication equipment
  • cotton seeds
  • foodstuffs (prepared)
  • grain samples
  • pharmaceutical products
  • plants and plant products
  • plastic and rubber products

  • seeds
  • shoes
  • tea
  • telecommunication equipment
  • tobacco
  • wood and wood products.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

  • antiques
  • asbestos
  • articles of glass, stone, plaster and cement
  • cereal
  • fertilizers
  • gambling devices
  • ivory
  • log and timber products from Liberia
  • lottery tickets and advertising
  • mineral products
  • pharmaceutical products
  • pearls, precious stones and metals
  • prohibitions prejudicial to political, social and moral order

In addition, commercial goods mailed to Panama require an invoice posted separately to the country authorities.

The following documents may be required:

1. Import Declaration

2. Commercial Invoice

3. Phytosanitary Certificate

4. Certificate of Free Sale (if applicable)

5. Certificate of Origin.
